Crayon Canvas Magic.....

Crayon Canvas Art--- It's the latest craze and Pinterest DIY project to have people buzz with excitement.
Wanna learn how to do this, then read further

Get This:
  •  Crayons --- In all your favorite colors
  • Canvas
  •  Glue gun
  • Heat tool to melt the crayons  ( I think a  hair dryer should to the trick, but I have not used one here)
  • Some old paper/newspaper to protect your work surface.

  Try This:
  •  Hot glue gun your crayons across the top edge of your canvas

  • Melt-- Using your heat tool. It only takes a few minutes and then the wax turns liquid and runs down.  Be careful, it splatters a bit. I used some old paper to protect my work surface.

And Viola like magic you have an abstract painting ready :)

Title: Rainbow Sherbet
Medium:  Crayons
Size: 11x14
Price: Not For Sale (NFS)

Note:
-- I had painted my canvas with black acrylic paint before sticking the crayons onto the canvas. I love bright colors and  wanted to use only bright colors against a dark backdrop. But you could use whatever colors you like or do not choose to paint the canvas like I did. It's totally up to you. You can  make funky shapes and  play around. I have started making more of these. Will post pics as and when I finish.

Until then take care and think creatively !

My painting gift to my sister :-)

The painting below is a gift for my sister. It is a Madhubani painting with my own twist.

Madhubani painting or Mithila painting is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar state, India and the adjoining parts of Terai in Nepal.

According to historical studies the Madhubani tradition is supposed to be existent in the
period 700 years AD. This tradition is practised by the women of Kayasth and the Brahmin communities in the Mithila area of Bihar. That is why Madhubani painting is sometimes refered as Mithila painting. Since Sita, wife of Lord Rama was from Mithila, the paintings  reflect  themes & stories from Ramayana. It also reflects stories from Mahabharata, Gods & Goddess of the Mithilas and their daily routine.

Painting is done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments obtained from flowers, leaves, grass, vegetables, food grains, fruits and charcoal, and is characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns.

This is a photo of my painting :

Library Show 2011

My first art show was the Sunnyvale Library Art show which was held in June 11 and 12,2011. This post is all about what I learn't from my paintings. Here's a quick peek at my  paintings
Title: The Isis Pharaoh
Medium: Coffee
Size: 9 X 12

Title: Finding Nemo
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 9X12
The Isis Pharaoh:

Positive Notes are:
  • I demonstrated that Coffee can now be used Not only for drinking !
  • The theme  chosen for this kind of medium is good. It gives an old vintage feel to the painting.
Suggestions for  further improvement :
  • To work on   composition.
  • To try on different surfaces such as Handmade papers, Cold press watercolor papers, canvas etc.

Finding Nemo

Since this is my first abstract painting I was told to do more abstracts so that you can get a feel for abstract painting.  Experiment more.

And here's the invite to the show:
