My Recent Artworks in Colored Pencils

Pictures below are some of my recent artworks created using only Colored Pencils.

1) This artwork below is for the Studio Challenge for the "COLOR" magazine

Title:  Hello Summer!

2)This year I will be attending  the CPSA (Colored Pencil Society of America ) International convention held later this month. The CPSA convention will be held in Brea,CA this year from July 31- Aug 3,2019.

I am also a  member of CPSA San Jose local chapter.  Local member chapter artists are contributing artworks related to Monarch Butterfly to raise awareness about the slow decline of this amazing butterfly population at this convention.

Picture below is a scientific illustration of the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. This illustration shows the various stages the Monarch butterfly goes through before it transforms itself into a beautiful butterfly.

3)I recently visited the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History and created the following scientific illustrations from my visit.

Hummingbirds generally like the nectar from Heliconia flowers. It is actually their favorite flower to drink nectar.

4) I purchased a Tulip at a local farmers market. It was so beautiful that I decided to put my scientific illustration skills to test and created this artwork from life. The moths in the picture is also my own reference. I attended an event called "Moth Night" on National moth day last year. I added this moth to add visual interest to this composition. I made rough sketches of this moth in my sketchbook and used them as reference for my artwork.  The magnification of these moths have been reduced in scale.

5) On March 21, 2019 , I won  first place in the Gold section  at the monthly Sunnyvale Art Club meeting competition.

Note: This will be my last entry under Gold section and from now onwards I move to the Blue/Advanced section.

Club members  who win the monthly competition at the club get to display their painting at a local cafe located in downtown Sunnyvale,CA  for the whole month ( Mar 22- April 24, 2019) under the signage " Sunnyvale Art Club's Artist of the month" signage.

The Scarlet Ibis --- My Colored pencil artwork

The competition was fierce with a record of 907 entries this year(2019).  

I am honored and happy  to inform you  all that   my  Colored Pencil artwork "The Scarlet Ibis" has been  selected for the Colored Pencil Hidden Treasures Volume 5 Publication this year (2019). I would like to thank Ann Kullberg who is a great Artist, Author and a Global Colored Pencil ambassador and her team of judges for providing me with this opportunity.


This artwork is part of a series of birds that I am currently working on. I apologize for not being active on my blog this past year as I was busy with other projects. But the good news is starting next month, I will post more content, more of my art projects that I was working on this past year and art tutorials. So please stay tuned for more art inspiration. Year in Review- 2017

It is that time of the year to look back at the news and stories that shaped this year 😂😁😃

1) The Sunnyvale Community Services Spring Boutique show happened this year on Saturday May 13,2017 at the Sunnyvale Community Services located at  725 Kifer Road, Sunnyvale, CA.  Being a member of this Sunnyvale Community Services Auxiliary team  I got a chance to sell all of my craftsy creations via this show for a cause. This show was a huge success this year. All the team members thanked me for increasing the publicity for this show. It was a win-win situation for all of us.  Here is a picture of all my sold items:

2) For May 2017, Flowers were the theme at Lisa's Lachri Fine Art Facebook group. Here is my entry for this group challenge. It was painted using the iPad.

3) The Sunnyvale Art Club's Annual  juried art show took place on  June 17,2017 and June 18,2017 at the Sunnyvale Public Library,CA this year. It was a memorable event for me because  not only did I win  3rd place under mixed media category, I also got to sell my original artwork.

4) I am thankful for being appreciated  by all of my  art club friends  for volunteering to be the Secretary of Sunnyvale Art Club for 5 years in a row now.  I will continue  to serve as the Secretary for whole  of 2018 as well.

7) On Sept 12, 2017 I received this news that my artwork had been selected for the Colored Pencil Hidden Treasures Volume 4 Publication this year (2017). The competition was fierce this year with a record of 837 entries.  I would like to thank Ann Kullberg who is a great Artist, Author and a Global Colored Pencil ambassador and her team of judges for featuring my artwork. 8) On  Friday October 13,2017, Colored Pencil Magazine hosted Friday the 13th giveaways in their Facebook page. I have never participated in any sort of giveaways before. In-fact this  was my first giveaway ever. I won the Derwent Procolor 24 count Tin set. I was thrilled to receive this set. Here is a picture. I would like to thank Sally Robertson from Colored Pencil Magazine for hosting this giveaway. It was a fun event.

 

9) From Sep 20 to Oct 23,2017 my artworks were featured at Red Rock Coffee Shop located at Castro Street Mountain view, CA. Here is a picture of my paintings at the cafe.

10) I was the featured artist from Oct 1 to Dec 1, 2017 at Pho Nam Restaurant located at 844 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale,CA. My painting " Airavata-- The Elephant in Heaven" was on display.

 11) The Sunnyvale Art Club's monthly club meeting took place on Thursday Nov 16, 2017. The theme for this  monthly art competition is "Abstracts". I am thrilled to  announce that my Colored Pencil artwork won 2nd place  in this competition.

12)  I am honored to inform you all that my artwork is  up at the Sunnyvale Mayor's office from  Dec 1, 2017 to Feb 1,2018. The Sunnyvale Mayor's office is located at 456 West Olive Avenue, Sunnyvale,CA.

My Artistic Updates

Here are some of my recent Artistic updates

1) On Aug 1, 2016 my iPad Art was featured in the Cover of Kathy Qi's  key2arts Bay Area Community Newsletter.--  Newsletter Issue 96 Bay Area Art Events for Aug 1 to Aug 10,2016.

2) My iPad art was featured for  June 2016 group challenge at Lisa's Lachri Fine art Facebook group challenge.Tropical was the theme for June 2016. Here is the video link of my  featured  iPad Art

3) The theme for July 2016 group challenge at Lachri Fine art Facebook group challenge was "Trees". Here is my entry for this challenge

4) Early June 2016 two of my iOrnament Art (iPad Art)  was featured under "User Creations with iOrnament 2.0 " in their Facebook page. Here are some snapshots of my featured paintings:









5) Sunnyvale Art Club hosts the yearly juried Library show at the Sunnyvale Library. I created this postcard for this show using only my iPad. Show was in June 2016. I did not participate this year but I got a chance to create the postcard. Here is the picture.









6) For the months of June and July I was the featured artist at the City Attorney's Office located across the Sunnyvale Library W.Olive Ave, Sunnyvale,CA. Here is a picture of my painting:
